THE WALK

One of the simple joys of after-school life at FPR is the privilege of picking up the elementary school participants and walking them back to the center. It’s a task that feels more like a gift— a day brightener, a joy bringer, a memory maker.

It’s a whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm as the group of children rush toward you, all speaking at once to tell you about their day before they dash to FamilyPoint. Then, as the lead group sprints ahead, you’re left with the few who prefer to take their time.

These children move at their own leisurely pace—deliberately slow, savoring the moment. To make it even more special, they’ll hold your hand and quietly begin telling you stories about their day, each one more heartfelt than the last. Their little voices fill the air, and for a few moments, the world seems to slow down around you.

Once the stories are told, the questions begin. Some are simple, others surprisingly profound. Their curiosity knows no bounds, and their innocent questions often leave you reflecting on things you might not have thought about in years.

"What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 4th grade?"

It’s in these moments, in the slow walks and shared stories, that the true magic of FPR shines. It’s not just about the destination. It’s about the connections made along the way.
