BOXES OF POSSIBILITY

Sitting still and being quiet can present quite a challenge for the children after school at FamilyPoint. In part, because they have just poured effort into attempting to focus for the past 7 hours at school. Also, because children are innately wired to learn through exploration, discovery, and collaboration. This entails action, disassembly, analysis, construction, and, inevitably, noise.

So, when Lynne presented a group of first graders with cardboard boxes and instructed them to create something, we were genuinely surprised that instead of the usual fidgeting and restlessness, they settled into silent focus.

“We can make anything we want?” One child asked, eyes wide with possibility.

“Yes, anything you can imagine. Use the paper, markers, scissors, and glue to bring your idea to life,” Lynne encouraged.

The FPR library transformed into a bustling creative factory. Houses and cars were assembled, comfy beds were constructed, cubbies for animals came together and then were taken outside for others to enjoy.

Our spaces are brimming with the tools and support for ideas to become reality. Everywhere you look there are opportunities for discovery— the sewing machines turning fabric into bags, the skillets cooking delicious meals, the basketballs maneuvering drills, the pencils solving problems, the computers coding new games, and even the benches where kids gather to chat and build friendships contribute to this rich tapestry of learning and growth. There is power in our collective imaginations.

Together, we’re not just dreaming of a better tomorrow—we’re building it. Every moment of creativity, every new project, and every shared experience moves us closer to that vision.

Thank you for being a part of making opportunities possible at FamilyPoint.
